I got it! Your post gave me the idea that the space I was getting in the middle of the number/letter string (like in the example you posted) might mean there are two addresses being listed for me, too… I had looked and looked, but no one had mentioned this until now (I know very little about networks so I had no idea what an ethernet address should look like).

I tried SEPARATING the addresses and it worked! I tried both of them, and for me both worked. And, it’s WITHOUT the quotes

You really want this thing to work there is an easy way around this silly process. after you have

1. perform up to Step 7.
2.Go to licencing utility again and Service/License tab
3. In these setting choose to “Configure using license file”
4. Locate your aw.dat file and your good to go.

hi arka,

u must include the MAC adress from your lan adapter without the quotesign and without the “-”
for example: 12345678abcd
i followed the steps from the admin and i did not close the window at step 7 and just ran maya … it worked

there are two Ethernet address.. one when MODEM is on, and another when it is off. which one should I put?

The Ethernet address is given in quotes (i.e., something like “001233 002kj001″). should we give the Ethernet address with or without quote sign i.e. ” “?

After selecting “Configuration using License File” how to save it? every time I exit the license utilities, and run license utility again, I notice that it is changed to “configure using server”. it may be a silly mistake, but creating big problem, please help me !!

here is what i did :

1. First Create a directory on the c: drive (even if you install maya on different drive) called FLEXLM
2. Copy the aw.dat and awkeygen.exe file to this directory.
3. Install Maya
4. Goto start–>all programs–>Autodesk–>common utilities–>FlexLM license utilities
5. Under system settings copy Ethernet address
6. Open the file (from the directory FLEXLM) aw.dat with Wordpad and replace the words “your host”
with the copied Ethernet address. Save and close wordpad
7. Using the run utility and type: C:\FLEXLM\awkeygen.exe aw.dat
8. Goto start–>all programs–>Autodesk–>common utilities–>FlexLM license utilities
select “Configuration using License File”
9. Browse to the path of the file aw.dat
10. run Maya

i am stuck here
Start at Step 3.

Your license (default) dir is /var/flexlm
so copy the generated aw.dat (you did that on a windows machine in dos)
into that directory.

where is this diretory supose to be in maya folder on c:/?

Does anyone know where I can download just the key generator? The trial version can be downloaded from Autodesk’s website. I don’t want to waste rapidshare credits downloading the whole application.

The instructions are pretty much standard . I haven’t installed it my self but everyone else seems to be fine with this because there has been lots of downloads and no complains till now.
